Embodied Belonging - a Virtual Somatic Healing Group

This new group is forming and I’d love to have you! This group is open to those who identify as female and/or non-binary.

Dates: 8 Wednesdays, 5:30-7pm, May 10-June 28th. Live attendance is required.

In a culture that values logic, productivity, rugged individualism and urgency, many of us are moving through life disconnected from our bodies and sense of belonging to a greater whole. This disconnect can make it hard to access a sense of safety in our bodies, external environment, and in our relationships with others, experiences that are necessary to live a life that feels satisfying, joyful and meaningful. It is within the symptoms of a disregulated nervous system (anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, loneliness, disordered eating, etc) that our body/mind/spirit is calling us home - the symptoms are messengers, and it is our job to listen to them, attune to them, and enter into relationship with them in order to heal them. This is where somatic healing comes in.

“The inner voices of the body want to speak to us, to inform us of the truths beneath the fixed surface of our external lives”. John O'Donohue

What does somatic mean, anyway? “Somatic” simply means the body. Somatic therapy uses the body as a starting point for healing, acknowledging that within the body are endless resources to guide us towards well-being. Our bodies hold the stories of our lives, and yet we are rarely conscious of the sensations, feelings, thoughts and images that course through us throughout our days. Somatic work helps make conscious what we are holding/what needs healing from our past, the aliveness of the present moment, and the possibilities of the future. Somatic work also informs us of what is was handed to us generationally, ancestrally, collectively and environmentally, and how this holding lands in our bodies and how we can integrate it and/or let it go. This training will include practices from embodied traditions such as Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, Somatic Experiencing, Yoga, Mindfulness and even Depth Psychology.

What is Group like? You can consider this group as an exploratory education of your body, your nervous system, and the way you relate to others and the world around you. Each group will last 90 minutes, and include somatic practices to help you land, a topic to discuss around somatics and embodiment, practices to help foster regulation and safety, question and answers, group sharing and connecting, and some time to journal. We will use practices inspired by Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal Theory, yoga, mindfulness, and breath work. Although I am a therapist, this group is not a therapy group - it is an educational and exploratory support group. It is a great adjunct to your current therapy work.

Enrollment and Pricing The cost for the eight-week session is $300. I will offer payment plans for those unable to pay in full, as well as two scholarship spots for a significant fee reduction for members of the BIPOC and/or LGBTQI+ community. I encourage those who are able to consider paying a higher amount such as $320 to help support the scholarships.
